How often do you replace your eye makeup like mascara and eyeliner?

Do you typically use them until they run out regardless of how long it takes, or do you have a certain timeframe you follow and throw them out once you reach it?

Typically I use my makeup until it is gone. Since I do use it everyday it doesn't take more than about 3 months for it to be all used up. If I have something that I found in my drawers that I haven't used in a long time I will throw it away. I knew that makeup had an expiration date but I was not sure when that was, better safe than sorry!

When you get your mascara ready, do you pump the brush back and forth?  This introduces air which makes the product last a shorter time and can also create contamination.  You should swirl the brush around in the mascara then pull it out and use it.

 

You should replace your mascara every 90 days - just like your furnace filter!

Eyeliner and Mascara should be replaced every 3 to 6 months no matter how much is left in it! As an esthetician I get this questioned asked to me often. These items carry high levels of bacteria and can cause pink eye or other eye infections. Also if you get any type of infection to the eye you should toss your mascara and/or eyeliner immediately and begin fresh. You should also be just as cautious with lip gloss and lip stick, if you think your favorite color won't be around, buy 2!

I never knew this about lip product. I figured the Mascara was a breeding ground after a time however. I find the mascara gets clumpy after about 6 mos anyway so I just make it a habit to replace.
