A membership may be frozen for medical or military purposes only. Life Time Fitness requires a statement from the treating physician for medical purposes, or orders from the branch of service in the case of military duty. The freeze will be effective for up to 90 days, unless medical documentation or military orders are dated otherwise. If an extension of the original freeze is requested, please provide proper documentation by the 20th of the month prior to its effect. (For example, an extension should be submitted by July 20 to take effect in August.) The membership will reactivate and monthly dues will be charged to the account on file upon the expiration of the membership freeze. Life Time Fitness does not retroactively freeze memberships.

Lee Stewart Lee Stewart  says:
I think a member should be able to freeze membership for the summer months due to vacations, etc.  Since our memberships are computerized, "freezing" for personal reasons should be considered.  Thanks.    I am a member, of course.
Brian Prehn Brian Prehn  says in response to Lee Stewart:
I was told the policy was a $10 per month charge to freeze the membership.  When did this change?
angela lee angela lee  says in response to Lee Stewart:
I completely agree!!
Martina Janasova Martina Janasova  says:
Yes, it still costs you $10+tax/month, but what is nice is, that once you "unfreeze it" you go back to your original fee, like in my case. I am still paying the same monthly fee as I was 4 years ago.
caroline chatard caroline chatard  says in response to Lee Stewart:
I totally agree !... but I thought we could do it and pay $10/month... I hope it didn't change !
derijia derijia  says:
Can you freeze a family membership for all but  one above 12 member on the account? No one seems to know.
Alan Fyfe Alan Fyfe  says:

I was told from a consultant when we signed up for a membership that we could freeze it at anytime for any reason. Ex. long vacations or difficult fiancial times. Obviously he completely lied to us.

Reggie Williams Reggie Williams  says in response to Brian Prehn:
the $10 per month plan is called a Flex, the Freeze is diffrent
Reggie Williams Reggie Williams  says in response to derijia:
If u freeze your account, it has to be the whole account, which will include everyone on the account. But what u could do is drop everyone except the person who still wants to use the gym, then u can always add yourself back later
KEVIN WILLIAMS KEVIN WILLIAMS  says in response to Martina Janasova:

I just went on the Flex program, but just received an e-mail asking me to reinstate.  This is the disclaimer that was in the e-mail:

"Flex members who reactivate must pay their dues rate at time of prior deactivation plus any dues, fees or cost increases, including junior dues, which occurred during the Flex period with respect to membership. Membership levels, prices, dues, fees and benefits are subject to change at any time including the terms and conditions applicable to Flex memberships. Other restrictions and state taxes may apply."
JACKIE RICCI JACKIE RICCI  says:
I decided to freeze my account. I came in the first day of the month...because I decided I didn't want it frozen...so why did I get charged the $10 fee and the full membership fee as well?
denise lujan denise lujan  says in response to Lee Stewart:
I totally agree with Lee.  We should be able to freeze year round for personal reasons.
reshma-007 reshma-007  says:
Yes, i definately agree with Lee and Denise, They should not charge us regular club fees while we are not using the gym for 2 months.  Please, whoever made this policy at the administrative level consider the personal reasons and " freeze the account"  with low monthly cost.  Be fair............
ANGELA FISCHER ANGELA FISCHER  says:

I too, agree tha "freezing" one's account should be considered for up to 90 days with a minimal fee.

I have been considering canceling my membership due to financial reasons...but I hesitate because I joined Lifetime Dublin before they even opened, and I know if I cancel and rejoin down the road, I will have to pay more than what I am currently paying.  It would benefit both Lifetime and the members if this would be an option.

Ck Tsang Ck Tsang  says:

My wife usually out of country in Summer with my kids.  Lifetime should  offer no fees for freezing and rejoining fees.  I was downgraded from couple to single and pay $25.00 back to couple membership when she's back.

I think this should honor loyalty customers, and LT should review the membeship policies not just for medical reasons......

Tiffany Ecklein Tiffany Ecklein  says:

There are options available to hold your membership if you are leaving the club for personal reasons/trips/school.  Life Time Fitness does not consider this hold to be a "Freeze" we call this a "Flex".

We have an option called the "Standard Flex" which will deactivate center access and hold your membership in the system for $10/mo.  Once you come back to activate your center access again, you will not have to pay any fees other than the prorate of the current month's dues.  (Technically it's holding your membership for $10/mo.)

Another option would be the "Student Flex" option.  This option is available to full time students under the age of 27 who wish to deactivate center access during the school year.  This option will also hold the membership in the system for $10/mo.  One of the benefits to the Student Flex is that the member would have up to seven (7) consecutive days of access during each of the student's fall and spring breaks and up to four (4) consecutive weeks during the student's winter break.  Once the school year is up, they can return to their club and activate the membership back up to the original level and have unlimited access.  With the Student Flex, they would also only pay the pro-rate of the current month's dues.

Life Time Fitness does require notice to make both these changes.  Any changes made to a membership between the 1st and 5th of any month become effective at the end of that month.  Any changes made to a membership after the 5th of any month are responsible for the payment of the same monthly rate in the subsequent month and the change will take place at the end of that month.  (i.e.  If you fill out paperwork to change your membership to a Standard Flex on September 16, you will be billed the same for the month of October, still have full access of the facility through the end of October, and the Standard Flex will take effect on November 1st.)

To make any of the changes described above, see your club's Member Services Desk.  Hope this provides some clarification.

Will Robinson Will Robinson  says:
If I'm on a family membership, can I put just put my portion on flex and leave my wife and kids active?
Susan Quarandillo Susan Quarandillo  says in response to Lee Stewart:
When we joined a year ago I was told we could freeze our membership whenever we wanted and that it was $10.00 a month.  They even gave us the example of...."For example people who vacation a lot in the summer like to freeze their membership."  They tell you one thing and then they do another.  So when did this change?
Mary Zedella Mary Zedella  says:
You are able to request to change your membership status to the Flex option at any time. Life Time does ask for a 30 day notice from the billing cycle to make this change, as is the standard notice for any voluntary change to the membership. When you reactivate, your membership dues are pro-rated for the rest of the month, less the $10 you have already paid that month toward your flex dues. With the flex, we will freeze the entire membership, and the $10 covers everyone on the membership. We are not able to freeze part of the membership, but you may remove and add members at any time.
Suzanne Montgomery Suzanne Montgomery  says in response to Mary Zedella:
I believe I was told there is a $25 administrative fee any time a change is made to the membership (adding or subtracting members), so in addition to flex fees, you need to consider these when deciding what the best plan for your family is.
SARA BRICE SARA BRICE  says in response to Suzanne Montgomery:

I switched to the Flex plan in September and did not pay a fee for switching to Flex.  Membership told me the admin fees were for dropping or adding people on your membership and did not apply to Flex.  So for those switching to Flex, I would expect you wouldn't have to pay the admin fee either.  Anyone who is unsure can always ask at the front desk.  There are notices posted at the front desk at my gym (Algonquin) regarding the fees and the folks in that department are very good at answering these questions too.

Mathew Kanjirath Mathew Kanjirath  says:

So who officailly responds to these questions?  Q & A cannot be by members for members.

Mathew Kanjirath Mathew Kanjirath  says in response to Mary Zedella:
Isn't there a fee attached for every change in family membership?
tom owen tom owen  says:
My wife and I also were told we could freeze our membership at anytime, for any reason.  Please advise when this changed, and when the advance notification was published.  We did not receive it and so would like to get a copy of the written change to put with our files.  Thank you.
Tom Freeman Tom Freeman  says:
I just joined and was told $10 per month freeze policy.  By the way, I see no reason why you shouldn't be able to freeze the membership...
