I was told from a consultant when we signed up for a membership that we could freeze it at anytime for any reason. Ex. long vacations or difficult fiancial times. Obviously he completely lied to us.
I just went on the Flex program, but just received an e-mail asking me to reinstate. This is the disclaimer that was in the e-mail:
"Flex members who reactivate must pay their dues rate at time of prior deactivation plus any dues, fees or cost increases, including junior dues, which occurred during the Flex period with respect to membership. Membership levels, prices, dues, fees and benefits are subject to change at any time including the terms and conditions applicable to Flex memberships. Other restrictions and state taxes may apply."
I too, agree tha "freezing" one's account should be considered for up to 90 days with a minimal fee.
I have been considering canceling my membership due to financial reasons...but I hesitate because I joined Lifetime Dublin before they even opened, and I know if I cancel and rejoin down the road, I will have to pay more than what I am currently paying. It would benefit both Lifetime and the members if this would be an option.
My wife usually out of country in Summer with my kids. Lifetime should offer no fees for freezing and rejoining fees. I was downgraded from couple to single and pay $25.00 back to couple membership when she's back.
I think this should honor loyalty customers, and LT should review the membeship policies not just for medical reasons......
There are options available to hold your membership if you are leaving the club for personal reasons/trips/school. Life Time Fitness does not consider this hold to be a "Freeze" we call this a "Flex".
We have an option called the "Standard Flex" which will deactivate center access and hold your membership in the system for $10/mo. Once you come back to activate your center access again, you will not have to pay any fees other than the prorate of the current month's dues. (Technically it's holding your membership for $10/mo.)
Another option would be the "Student Flex" option. This option is available to full time students under the age of 27 who wish to deactivate center access during the school year. This option will also hold the membership in the system for $10/mo. One of the benefits to the Student Flex is that the member would have up to seven (7) consecutive days of access during each of the student's fall and spring breaks and up to four (4) consecutive weeks during the student's winter break. Once the school year is up, they can return to their club and activate the membership back up to the original level and have unlimited access. With the Student Flex, they would also only pay the pro-rate of the current month's dues.
Life Time Fitness does require notice to make both these changes. Any changes made to a membership between the 1st and 5th of any month become effective at the end of that month. Any changes made to a membership after the 5th of any month are responsible for the payment of the same monthly rate in the subsequent month and the change will take place at the end of that month. (i.e. If you fill out paperwork to change your membership to a Standard Flex on September 16, you will be billed the same for the month of October, still have full access of the facility through the end of October, and the Standard Flex will take effect on November 1st.)
To make any of the changes described above, see your club's Member Services Desk. Hope this provides some clarification.

I switched to the Flex plan in September and did not pay a fee for switching to Flex. Membership told me the admin fees were for dropping or adding people on your membership and did not apply to Flex. So for those switching to Flex, I would expect you wouldn't have to pay the admin fee either. Anyone who is unsure can always ask at the front desk. There are notices posted at the front desk at my gym (Algonquin) regarding the fees and the folks in that department are very good at answering these questions too.
So who officailly responds to these questions? Q & A cannot be by members for members.
