Dear Members,
With the 2009 holiday season now upon us, I wanted to share a few simple steps to protect your valuables. Whether you’re visiting the club, mall, work, or even when parked in your own driveway at home, unfortunately, this time of year typically brings an increase in vehicle break ins.
With that in mind, here are just a few safety tips for protecting your possessions during the holiday season:
> Don’t leave valuables (purses, briefcases, packages, electronics or money) inside your vehicle where they may be visible from the outside. Keep these items with you or place them in your trunk, but do so BEFORE you arrive at your destination as a would-be thief may be observing the area.
Most thefts from vehicles are prompted entirely upon being able to see an item of value inside.
> Always lock your vehicle no matter where it is or how short a time you will be away from it. This will deter those who may enter an unlocked car to activate trunk or hood release buttons. Additionally, lock your trunk, glove compartment or any other compartment in which you intend to place valuables.
> Park in well-lit areas. Thieves are less likely to break into a vehicle if they can be easily seen by others.
> Of course, if you witness any suspicious activity, be sure to dial 911 to alert authorities.
By taking these few precautions you can help deter the loss of your valuables through the senseless act of a thief.
I wish you and yours a safe, healthy and happy holiday season!
Sincerely,
Joel Cochren
