First off I would like to thank everyone again for playing in the league! We have 90 players in the league, YES I SAID 90, and ten different divisions!!!  Not to bad for a club with only two courts.

The league tournament was or is scheduled for the November 11 (Thursday) - November 13 (Saturday), but with the amount of players we have this Fall I will have to add another day or two.  Over the next couple of days I will make a mock tournament and see exactly how many days we will need.  I will keep you posted.

There will be two FREE clinics in the coming weeks.  The first one will be for new-intermediate players and the second for mid level-advanced players.   The clinics are designed to answer any racquetball questions, learn the rules of racquetball, develop a proper swing, and court position.  I will have your league shirts on those two days, so even if you do not need help with your game stop by and pick up your shirt.  When I get the exact date our shirts will be ready I will announce the dates of the clinics.

Doubles reminder...If you are playing doubles I would like to enforce the rule of having to serve to the opposite side your partner is on.  It just protects your partner by having you serve to the other side.  So if your partner is standing on the right side of the court you must serve to the left side and vice versa.

We had our first complaint of the year.  A member and her small child were upstairs working out Tuesday night and heard a couple players in court #2 cursing.  She was offended enough to make a complaint with management.  Please try to refrain from cursing in the courts.  Thanks in advance!

Finally, I would like to start planning our social mixer.  The mixer is designed to introduce everyone to one another.  I want the league to be a fun and enjoyable experience and with everyone knowing one another, I think it will.  We could have it at a restaurant, but I want it to be FREE for everyone and for everyone to be comfortable and attend.  The plan is to have everybody bring a dish and their preferred beverage.   For the summer league we had it at a clubhouse with a pool and it worked great.  (This is where you come in)  I need suggestions for a place to hold the mixer.   Please respond with any suggestions you might have.

As always if you have any other suggestions, questions, comments, please don't hesitate to ask.  This is YOUR league and I am always looking for ways to make it better.

Racquetball League

The Fall Racquetball League started on September 1, 2010 and will end November 13, 2010.  The league currently has 91 players and the following divisions: Elite, A, B, C, D, Women’s Novice, Junior Division, 50+ Division, Advanced Doubles, and Intermediate Doubles.  The league is great for beginners just learning the game and great for veterans of the sport.

Women’s Night

The racquetball courts on Monday nights from 6-8pm are reserved for women only.  The night is designed to help promote more woman in the sport and to make new friends.  RB Coordinator, Eddie Pavloski, will be there to answer any questions you might have and to teach you the proper mechanics of racquetball. This is a FREE event for all members.

Men’s Night

The racquetball courts on Tuesday nights from 6-9pm for Men’s are reserved for Men’s Challenge Night.  The night is designed for men, but women are able to play also.  We have some women in our club who are more advanced that others and play on men’s night to get a more competitive game.  RB Coordinator, Eddie Pavloski, will be there to answer any rule questions, teach proper mechanics, and also to help pair you up according to your skill level.  This is a FREE event for all members.

Junior Day

Our Junior Day is every Saturday from 12-2pm.  The day is set up to teach our junior players (under the age of 18) the rules and fundamentals of the game. RB Coordinator, Eddie Pavloski, will be there to teach them racquetball etiquette, fair play, and sportsmanship.  This is a FREE event for all members.

Racquetball Equipment

For all your racquetball needs (restringing, regripping, new equipment) simply call or email Eddie Pavloski (832)877-2978 or Epavloski@lifetimefitness.com

Future Events

Don’t make any plans for December 11th and 12th.  Plans are in the works for our first Holiday Shootout Tournament.  Also a Racquetball Demo Night (TBA).  More to come…

RACQUETBALL FACT - The average number of calories burned during racquetball play ranges from moderate at 640/hour (Prevention, 1995) to 794/hour (Men's Health, 1995) - to a high level at 822/hour (Sports Training Institute).

New For Fall! in Karmela Lejarde's Blog

Posted by klejarde Sep 3, 2010

Starting Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2010, my teaching schedule at LTF Fairfax will change as follows:

MONDAYS:

  • 7:00 - 7:30pm: Core. My core class will be yoga-based, which means using our body weight to strengthen, stretch and work the abdominals and back. A warm-up and cool-down will be incorporated at the start and end of class, and there will be a short break between the Core class and...
  • 7:30 - 8:30pm: Dance Jam! Strut, sway and follow along to basic dance moves. I incorporate a little bit of every genre, from ballet to hip hop, from modern to Latin, from Broadway to tribal. No dance experience (or even coordination) is required; the focus of this class will be SWEAT and FUN.

WEDNESDAYS:

  • 7:00 - 7:30pm: Core. Description above.
  • 7:30 - 8:30 pm: Cardiokickboxing! Punch, kick and block your way to fun and fitness. This class incorporates moves taken from classic Martial Arts disciplines, from Karate to Tae Kwon Do to Capoeira, and of course, boxing. This is a no-contact class with an emphasis on proper form and alignment, and the incorporation of athletic drills and plyometrics.

Hope to see you in class!

Oh my...... in LIFESDP's Blog

Posted by LIFESDP Sep 3, 2010

Well I went to kickboxing last night and let me say that I have challenged myself to do one full hour with Ismail.  I knew at the beginning something would be different but I had no idea as to how different.  I ONLY LASTED AN HOUR!  I'm cool with it because like I said, "I'm challenging myself" and if I've never been patient before this will be my test.  Anyway, last night I bought me a Yoga mat and a pedometer to assist me on my mission.  Tonight I will workout with a familiar friend, Elliptical.  Have a safe weekend and wish me luck.
